Abstract
Geotermalna energija je izvor energije planeta Zemlje. Potječe od primordijalne topline koja se oslobađa od vremena nastanka planeta i topline radioaktivnog raspada elemenata u plaštu. Energija je prisutna na površini kore cijelog planeta, ali zbog tektonike ploča, sastava tla i reljefa, neka područja imaju izraženiju pojavu geotermalne aktivnosti i veći toplinski tok. Eksploatacija geotermalne energije započela je početkom 20. stoljeća korištenjem površinskih fumarola za pokretanje turbine. Kasnije izvedbe se koriste tehnologijama dubinskih bušenja i iskopavanja kako bi se došlo do toplih podzemnih voda koje se koriste za pokretanje turbina ili zagrijavanje radnog fluida (binarni ciklus). Osim u energetici, ovaj se energetski izvor također može koristiti u zgradarstvu za grijanje stambenih prostora posredstvom raznih izvedbi dizalica topline. Iako proizvode znatno manju emisiju stakleničkih plinova u odnosu na elektrane na fosilna goriva, geotermalne elektrane također mogu negativno utjecati na svoj okoliš promjenom reljefa putem izazivanja klizišta i seizmičkih aktivnosti.
Abstract (english)
Geothermal energy is the energy source of the planet Earth. It's origin is traced from the primordial heat which flows throught the planet ever since it's creation and radioactive decay of the elements in the mantle. The energy is present on the entire surface of Earth's crust, but due to the plate tectonics, soil composition and relief, some areas have amplified geothermal activity. The exploatation of this energy source began in the beginning of the 20th century by utilising the surface fumaroles to run the turbine. Later implementations took the advantaeg of deep drilling and excavation to reach the warm underground water to either run the turbines or heat up the working fluid (binary cycle). Except for energy generation, this heat source can be used to heat up the residential areas through the means of heat pumps. Although they produce significantly less greenhouse gases, geothermal power plants can still have negative impact on their environment by causing relief changes through the means of induced landslides and seismic activities.
