CAM software is one useful and powerful tool for programming CNC machine tools. It allows us to program quick and easy and to easily correct errors if they occur. The program offers us an overview of video processing simulation so that we can predict and act preventively on an error preventing tool collisions. CAM software often comes bundled with a CAD system, which allows us to draw a 3D model of the product, the processing which we will program later. First section of this paper discusses the types of programming CNC machine tools and their advantages and disadvantages. For each type of programming, it’s application and the possibilities of error ocur is explained. There is also explained what CAD and CAM systems are and what is their connection as well as their main elements. At the end of the chapter on CAD / CAM systems, it is described which program I used to solve the task, it was Autodesk Inventor Professional. After drawing, programming and performing the work on the software, the processing will continue on the laboratory milling machine. Therefore, the next section discusses milling machines, types of milling, cutting parameters during milling, the division of milling machines and types of milling tools. Also there are described characteristics of the Bridgeport VMC560 / 22 laboratory milling machine. The theoretical part of the paper is followed by the practical one. The next section describes the practical part of drawing a 3D model and programming the NC code to make a pencil stand. The drawing of CAD models and CAM programming of the machine tool step by step is thoroughly described. The whole paper is accompanied by pictures and diagrams that further describe and explain the theoretical issues and additionally show the practical part of the paper. Drawings and lists of tools and operations for making a pencil stand are attached.
