Recently, with increasing fossil fuel prices and their negative impact on the environment, more attention is paid to renewable and more environmentally friendly sources of energy. With many renewable energy sources, great attention is dedicated to the energy of the waves that is available at any time, only in other intensities. Thanks to great advances in technology and computer power, computational fluid dynamic assumed the main role as a reasearch and validation tool of such an acceptable source of energy. Compitational fluid dynamics has expanded the application of numerical methods to increasingly complex turbulent fluid flows, and to more geometrically complex areas of calculation thus providing great progress in wave energy research. The Wells turbine is numerically analyzed in this paper, which is one of the solutions for wave energy utilization. The Wells turbine is an axial turbine consisting of a rotor, usually with symmetrical blades, spaced at a 90 degree angle. This type of turbine is used in a so-called oscillating water column system, which converts the wave energy into two-way air flow. The turbine geometry with the NACA0021 profile of the rotor blade is proposed, as well as a structured and unstructured numerical mesh for the analysis of this turbine. Together with the simulation model, two turbulent models have been proposed for the analysis of the the turbine. It is also given a detailed overview of the results of numerical analysis together with explanations of situations that are occurring.
