The goal of this paper is to analyze in depth the process of the creation of the torpedo, from its first model forwards, how it developed, and to take a peek into the world of numerical simulation. Giovanni Luppis from Rijeka, a frigate captain of the Austro-Hungarian Navy, came up with the idea of a torpedo while he was stationed in the Pula bay. Since the Ministry of War in Vienna was not interested in his proposal, he concluded a contract with the English industrialist Robert Whitehead. Together they worked on his idea, opened a factory in Rijeka and started producing torpedoes. With each new model, the torpedo became faster, more precise and more maneuverable. News of the torpedo spread quickly around the world. As the inventions were not patented, other countries build their own factories and Rijeka's factory lost its purpose and is repurposed.Four models of torpedoes were selected, from the first to the last created in the Rijeka factory, which show how this invention developed over a period of time. A 3D model is created for each torpedo and passed through a fluid flow simulation. In the pictures of the simulation display, the velocity currents and the pressure distribution on the surface of the torpedo model can be seen. It can be noticed that the model was gradually improved, it got a better shape, greater range and speed, and thus its flow through the water was improved.
