Abstract
U ovom diplomskom radu ispitivano je kako različite konfiguracije i promjeri ventila utječu na performanse motora. Konfiguracije koje su se ispitivale su motori s dva, tri, četiri i pet ventila po cilindru pri čemu se za svaku konfiguraciju odredio maksimalni mogući promjer ventila. Prvi dio rada obuhvatio je pregled razmatranih konfiguracija ventila, gdje su prikazane njihove prednosti i nedostaci u pogledu protoka zraka, snage motora, složenosti te troškova proizvodnje. Kako za komercijalne motore s unutarnjim izgaranjem konfiguracija s četiri ventila po cilindru daje optimalan kompromis što se tiče performansi i složenosti te cijene proizvodnje, za istu se analiziralo varijabilno upravljanje ventilima odnosno fazni pomak ventila. Eksperimentalni dio rada uključio je simulacije baznog motora, te motora s različitim konfiguracijama ventila u programu Lotus Engineering Software. Također je dana usporedba dobivenih rezultata te prijedlog optimalnog modela.
Abstract (english)
In this thesis, the impact of different valve configurations and diameters on the engine performance was examined. The configurations investigated includes engines with two, three, four, and five valves per cylinder, with the maximum possible valve diameter determined for each configuration. The first part of the thesis covered a review of the considered valve configurations, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages in terms of airflow, engine power, complexity, and production costs. Since the four-valve configuration offers an optimal compromise for commercial internal combustion engines in terms of performance, complexity, and production costs, variable valve timing or phase shift was implemented for this configuration. The experimental part of the work includes simulations of the base engine and engines with different valve configurations using Lotus Engineering Software. A comparison of the obtained results was also provided, along with a proposal for the optimal model.
